SME-Instruments

Support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) with up to 250 employees (including newly started enterprises, more terms apply) that has a radical innovation that can be a game changer on the market. The enterprise should have global growth ambitions and potential. Support is available all the way from demonstrator to market launch preparation.

* SME instruments is currently going through large changes, contact us to learn more.

  • Phase 1: Up to 50,000 EUR grant for feasibility study and business plan development
  • Phase 2: 500,000 EUR to 2,500,000 EUR grant for demonstration projects and preparation for market launch
  • 70 % Support level for projects
  • Can be done in consortium or as single enterprise
  • Response and decision in 2 to 4 months

Approved projects – SME

Fast Track to Innovation:

For more mature technologies, concepts and business models that are near market launch. It should be ground-breaking innovation with high potential.

  • Project support between 1 million and 3 million EUR
  • 70 % support level for for-profit organizations
  • 100 % support level for non-profit organizations
  • Project needs 3 to 5 partners in 3 different countries
  • Needs to be clear how the project helps in the reaching sustainability or climate goals

EU-loans and venture capital

EU can also support with loans and assist with finding investors so your innovation idea can be realized. European Investment Bank (EIB) has the following priorities:

  • The idea should be highly innovative and groundbreaking
  • Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) with up to 250 employees (More terms apply)
  • Projects related to infrastructure
  • Projects related to Energy and Environment

Since the financial crisis, EU has suffered from low investment levels. An investment plan for Europe was developed to tackle this – “The Juncker Plan”. As part of this plan, the European Investment Project Portal (EIPP) was developed which is a free to use “speed-dating” portal where investors and projects are matched.
